Following the MoU, signed between the National Audit Office of Sweden and the State Audit Office of Georgia in 2010, proceeded by a successful 8-year cooperation, the SAO has been strengthened in order to carry out its mandate-related activities and to fulfill its role in Georgia’s public administration effectively.
Project Outcomes:
- Financial and compliance audit methodologies have been created in line with the international standards focused on further development of auditing activities.
- Performance Audit Department has been set up.
- The SAO has joined the INTOSAI Performance Audit Subcommittee (PAS).
- Continuous trainings were conducted in performance audit, compliance audit and improvement of communication.
- Capacity building of the SAO has been supported to ensure the quality of performance audits.
- Pilot performance audits have been conducted with the involvement of Swedish experts.
- Intranet Portal was set up.
- To improve internal and external communication, a communication team has been established.
- During the project, high-level meetings of the State Audit Office and the Georgian Parliament representatives have been hosted on a regular basis with the Swedish National Audit Office and the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag of Sweden) to introduce interagency cooperation and share experience.
- The SAO involved in a multilateral cooperation project organized by the Swedish National Audit Office with the SAIs of Moldova and Latvia, was involved in sharing experience in performance, financial and compliance audits.
