STATE AUDIT OFFICE OF GEORGIA

The State Audit Office of Georgia will conduct audit of USAID-funded projects 17 June, 2019

The State Audit Office of Georgia (SAO) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have entered into the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

According to this MoU, the SAO and the USAID will work jointly on the institutional strengthening of the SAO and in the field of financial audits of USAID-funded Government-to-Government (G2G) activities as well.

This MoU stands as a prerequisite for the SAO to conduct audit of USAID-funded projects.

Signing of the MoU was preceded by the SAO successfully passing the quality procedure of the USAID and having been recognized as an auditor for USAID-funded projects in the South Caucasus region.

As an auditor of the World Bank (WB) since 2018, the SAO has a vast experience in auditing international projects. Currently, the SAO is working on the second audit of the projects, funded by the World Bank.

As the Auditor General Irakli Mekvabishvili has noted, high evaluation received from such an authoritative organization as the USAID is, proves high professionalism and reliability of the SAO.

The USAID is a strategic partner of the SAO, with a long-standing professional cooperation, supporting the oversight of public finance management.

From the Georgian side, the MoU has been signed by the Auditor General Irakli Mekvabishvili and from the USAID side the Mission Director of USAID/Georgia Peter A. Wiebler.
