The State Audit Office got a high score - B + in the report of the World Bank and the European Union Assessment Mission - public finance expenditure and accountability (PEFA - Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability).
The report covers three complete fiscal years and assesses the State Audit Office in four directions: institutional independence; audit coverage indicators and standards; timely submission of audit reports to the Parliament of Georgia; monitoring system of implementation of the SAO’s recommendations.
In 3 components of the four directions, the State Audit Office received a high score – A and score B in monitoring of fulfillment of recommendations by budgetary organizations.
PEFA is a world-renowned system of public finance management performance assessment.
Inter-agency working group prepared PEFA self-assessment primary report last year. The assessment according to the PEFA methodology was performed previously in Georgia in 2008 and 2012. It should be noted that in the most critical component - audit coverage indicator, the assessment of the State Audit Office increased from B + to A.
The World Bank and the EU assessment mission report was presented to the society by the Head of the Mission Group - Patrick Umah Tete. The presentation was attended by government agencies, international organizations and civil society representatives.
