The Council of Europe delegation visits the State Audit Office 18 April, 2018

The delegation of Congress of Local and Regional Authorities (Council of Europe) paid a visit to the State Audit Office.

The representatives of Council of Europe – Michail Angelopoulos (Greece), Stewart Dickson (UK) assisted by Nikolaos-Komninos Chlepas of the group of independent experts met Deputy Auditor General Eka Ghazadze, Head of Audit Department in Ajara Autonomous Republic Kakha Kirtava and Head of Department for Local Self-governance Units’ Budgets George Mamrikishvili.

The goal of the visit of the delegation from Council of Europe is to prepare a report on functioning of democracy on local and regional levels and ensure the implementation of principles of the European Charter on Local Self-governance.

The representatives of the State Audit Office presented to the guests relevant reports and conclusions, as well as reports and recommendations prepared by audit services of local self-governance units. Thanks to this information the delegation from Council of Europe will be allowed to have a broad and unbiased picture.

After the planned meetings the delegation will prepare a report and set of recommendations on democratic development in Georgia on regional and local levels which is to be endorced by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities (Council of Europe) during its next session.

Georgia joined the European Charter on Local Self-governance in 2004. The last report on implementation of the charter by Georgia was released in 2013.
