Round table meeting “Role of the public audit in parliamentary oversight”, organized by the EU project “Public Finance Policy and Management Reforms”, was held today, on March 31.
Goal of the meeting was the dialogue between the State Audit Office and its strategic partners and identification of the mechanisms that will contribute to the improvement of the communication between the parties in the following issues:
- Public sector audit and budget oversight;
- Importance of the working group considering audit reports, formed within the framework of the Budget and Finance Committee of the Parliament;
- Best practice and knowledge sharing regarding the strengthening of mutual cooperation between the State Audit Office and its strategic partners.
Within the framework of the meeting, representatives of the State Audit Office held presentations on the following issues as well:
- Role of the State Audit Office in the state budget oversight process:
- Role of the Parliament in the recommendations’ fulfillment process;
- Performance Audit: challenges and recommendations;
- Public Audit Institute;
- Public involvement in the public finance management oversight process;
Round table meeting was attended by the members of the Budget and Finance Committee of the Georgian Parliament, representatives of the ministries (Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Education and Science), Deputy Parliamentary Secretary of the President of Georgia, representatives of NGOs and donor organizations and other invited guests.
