„Parliamentary and external financial oversight in Georgia "- EU- and GIZ- Joint Conference 17 November, 2015

On November 17, 2015, the conference on “Parliamentary and external financial oversight in Georgia” initiated by EU and GIZ was held in Georgia.

During the conference, focus was made on the ensuring of constitutional framework necessary for the institutional independence of the State Audit Office and enlargement of the audit mandate. In addition, the policy paper of the State Audit Office submitted to the European Commission was also discussed at the conference.

Besides, purposes and tasks of the working group on parliamentary oversight, established within the framework of the Budget and Finance Committee, which serve for the cultivating relations between Parliament and the State Audit Office were emphasized at the conference.

Aim of the above-mentioned group is to strengthen control over the executive government as a result of enhancing functions of the State Audit Office.

Representatives of the Parliament, Ministry of Finance of Georgia and other governmental bodies as well as members of international organizations took part in the conference. Participants underlined the development of the external audit and support of independence at the legislative level, public resource management and accordingly, improvement of the transparency and accountability of the governmental activity.
