Meeting of Monitoring Unit with NGOs 08 May, 2015

Consultive meeting, supported by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID),  between the State Audit Office and NGOs took place on May 6-8. The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the CEC, LEPL -- Center of Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Training and the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.  

The meeting focused on the amendments, prepared by the State Audit Office,  which should be made in the Election Code. It should be noted that at this meeting, the Ministry of Justice of Georgia presented recommendations made by the international organizations regarding the election code and Georgia’s obligations concerning the political financing in Georgia, election code, regulations and practice.

Initiatives and recommendations of the CEC, inter-agency commission and other parties involved were also discussed at the meeting. Moreover, it was agreed to continue further consultations to improve the implementation process of the political financing monitoring function and authority of the State Audit Office in order to ensure the transparency of the political financing and to create the equal rights elections environment. 

Finally, as a result of the certain remarks made during the meeting, the legislative amendments, prepared by the State Audit Office, were supported and approved. The draft will be sent to the Parliament for further consideration.
