International seminar in Supreme Audit Institution of Poland 22 May, 2015

On May 18-22, an international seminar, organized by the Supreme Audit Institution of Poland took place in Warsaw. High-ranking officials of SAIs of Georgia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Litva, Slovak Republic, Moldova da Ukraine attended the seminar. Moreover, experts of the European Court of Auditors, IDI, European Parliament, INTOSAI and EUROSAI were also invited.

Main goal of the seminar was sharing knowledge and experience in the development and capacity building of the SAIs on their countries’ way to the EU membership.

Within the framework of the seminar, the parties discussed following issues: supervision and audit in the area of local self-government in Poland; fight against corruption from the SAI’s perspective and audits performed by the European Court of Auditors.

Before opening of the seminar, the official meeting in the SAI of Poland – NIK’s headquarters, in the Lech Kaczyński Conference room took place, where heads of delegations had their welcoming speeches. They paid attention to the experiences of their countries in this sphere and recently achieved results. Auditor General of the State Audit Office of Georgia Mr. Lasha Tordia also delivered a speech at this seminar.

INTOSAI  IDI director, who shared his experience with the countries, panticipating in the seminar regarding the implementation and realization of the long-term regional development program, the beneficiaries of which were V4 group countries and Baltic States, was also invited to take part in the seminar.     

After the meeting, on May 20-22,  another seminar for the representatives of the participating countries (Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine) was conducted. Such issues as arrangement and structure of the local government of Poland and audit approaches; role of SAI in the fight against corruption and its mandate were discussed at the seminar.

The initiative of the President of NIK Mr. Krzysztof Kwiatkowski was that after the signing of the EU association agreement, the EU-member SAIs to share gained knowledge and experience to Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
