The "Budget Monitor" of the State Audit Office was awarded with a Global Initiative of Fiscal Transparency (GIFT) award as an Innovative Web Platform for Transparency and Citizens’ Involvement at the US Open Governance Partnership Regional Meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
GIFT is a global platform that facilitates cooperation among the government, CSOs, private sector and other stakeholders in fiscal transparency and citizens’ engagement. The GIFT heads the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Public Transparency Group and sets up a prestigious international award for transparency in public finances sphere.
More than 2000 representatives of OGP member countries, including governmental sector, CSOs, journalists, digital innovators, researchers and stakeholders in open governance issues participated in the OGP regional meeting. Within the framework of the meetings, the representative of State Audit Office Giorgi Chakvetadze held presentations of the "Budget Monitor" to share the successful experience of the State Audit Office of Georgia.
"Budget Monitor" also won the UN World Summit Awards (WSA) in the categories of Citizens’ Involvement in Public Finances and IT Innovation (GITI) Award in the "Best Online Information Source", which was carried out within the framework of the 10th Anniversary Regional Conference of Georgia’s Cyber Security and Information Technology - "GITI 2017".
SAO’s web-platform "Budget Monitor" is a unique analytical portal which delivers information about public finance management process to citizens via easy-to-understand data visualizations. Particularly, the platform enables members of Parliament, civil society representatives, interested experts and other stakeholders to choose their sphere of interest and immediately obtain up-to-date reliable information about state revenues, expenses, public debt, infrastructural projects, program budgeting, public procurement and etc.
Besides, the platform presents audit findings and recommendations conducted by State Audit Office using simple visual filters. Also, it enables citizens to engage in improvement of public finance management processes.
