Auditor of the State Audit Office is Participating in the International Auditor Fellowship Program in the U.S. Government Accountability Office 29 May, 2019

 Auditor of the State Audit Office, Mariam Zaalishvili is participating in the International Auditor Fellowship Program in the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO).

Participation in the GAO International Auditor Fellowship Program is supported by the USAID. The program lasts for 4 months and gathers the young auditors selected from 18 countries, including Estonia, Argentina, Brazil, Albania, Hong Kong and Singapore.

The participants of the program are engaged in the audit process and auditory research. Apart form these work procedures, together with her colleagues, Mariam Zaalishvili is studying the best international practice, audit planning and management methodology, leadership, innovations introduced in the US federal audit, methodology of risk-based audit planning, audit quality control and assessment of performance audit and its impact.  

The participants of the program met with the head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office, who got familiar with Georgia and expressed his readiness to share experience between the GAO and SAO.

The main part of the program has been taking place in Washington Head Office. However, visits to US Federal Government Offices are also planned.

The participants of the program, together with the representatives of the U.S Supreme Audit Institution and delegates from international donor organizations, attended the conference organized by the World Bank (WB), covering the themes about audit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At the conference, the managing director for strategic issues at the GAO Chris Mihm, who is also a representative of the organization in INTOSAI also mentioned Georgia’s work and its successful outcomes in auditing SDGs.
