An online seminar of the European Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions – EUROSAI Working Group on the Audit of Funds Allocated to Disasters and Catastrophes has been co-hosted by the State Audit Office of Georgia on the topic of „Disaster Risk Reduction and Response”.
Deputy Auditor General Sophio Dvalishvili addressed the members of the working group and reviewed the existing practices and challenges in the prevention and management of natural disasters and their audit. State auditors shared their experience with the members of the group on auditing the effectiveness of early warning systems and early measures, as well as auditing the effectiveness of using meteorological, hydrological, and geological data for early warning systems.
The group members were introduced the presentations on reducing the risks of natural disasters in the context of climate change, as well as on various activities implemented by the Emergency Situations Service, including the improving the public warning system for emergencies.
The workshop was attended by auditors from the Supreme Audit Institutions of Georgia, Albania, Italy, Serbia, Moldova, Ukraine, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Estonia, Poland, as well as staff from the European Court of Auditors (ECA), representatives of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the National Environmental Agency of Georgia.
