The eighth annual conference of the WGMA “Local Government Infrastructure Projects” of the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI) was convened in Tbilisi, attended by up to 60 representatives from 25 European countries, including Auditor Generals and Deputy Auditor Generals of several countries.
The conference, focused on “Local Government Infrastructure Projects”, was opened by Auditor General of SAI Georgia Tsotne Kavlashvili and Auditor General of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Korčagins, who is also a chair of the working group (WGMA).
"Infrastructure projects and their management at the local self-government level is one of the most important and, at the same time, challenging fields. Through our audits conducted in municipalities and the recommendations we issue, we help them achieve their goals in a timely and quality manner, as well as identify risks and challenges. Participation in the working group is opportunity for all of us to discuss different approaches, share international practices and experiences to improve our activities," said Tsotne Kavlashvili.
During the two-day working meeting, representatives of SAIs presented the results and experiences of their countries. They also summarized the activities carried out by the working group this year and discussed agenda for the coming year.
The conference also featured representatives from the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, the National Tourism Administration, and mayors of municipalities, who presented Georgia's experience in managing infrastructure projects to the members of the group.
The WGMA was established in 2016 and aims to exchange best practices and experiences among audit institutions of European countries. The activities of the working group have a significant impact on improving public finance management and increasing efficiency of municipal services through conducted audits.
