The State Audit Office, as a candidate country of EU membership, participated for the first time in the session of the Network of Supreme Audit Institutions of EU candidate countries, which was hosted by the Belgian Court of Audit in Brussels.
The SAO became a candidate member of the European Network in December 2023, after Georgia was granted the status of a candidate country for the EU.
At the meeting of the Network of SAIs of EU candidate countries, the participants discussed the activities related to the work planned for 2024-2025, including the conference planned end February regarding the audit of the state budget, the professional development program of performance auditors, the use of data analysis in the audit process, and the organizational issues of the next meeting. The representatives of the SAO also participated in the annual meeting of the Contact Committee of the SAIs of the EU countries. The participants of the event also met Hilde François, President of the Belgian SAI hosting the events.
The meetings was attended by 36 representatives of EU members and candidate countries from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine, Turkey, Kosovo with an observer status. The meetings was also attended by representatives from the European Court of Auditors and the European Union and the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation OECD /from the SIGMA project.
The State Audit Office of Georgia was represented by Tsotne Karkashadze, the Head of the State Budget and Strategic Analysis Department and Nino Kereselidze, the Head of the Donor Relations Division.
