A working meeting of representatives of the Supreme Audit Institutions from Georgia, Romania, Ukraine, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, Turkey, Moldova and the USA was hosted in Bucharest, Romania.
The working group, under the leadership of the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine discussed approaches and existing practices of various countries regarding the preparedness, prevention and mitigation of the consequences of disasters and natural catastrophes.
Audit working group members shared their country specifications and experiences. The representatives of the SAO introduced to their colleagues the primary challenges, findings and recommendations identified within the framework of the audit of management (prevention, preparedness) of emergency situations caused by forest fires.
Within the meeting over a seminar the participants were divided into small working groups and made presentations of their practices and approaches in relation to the given practical examples.
With the initiative of the working group, on the preparedness of governments for disasters and natural catastrophes, prevention and elimination of their consequences will be prepared a joint international audit report which the State Audit Office will join with performance audit of forest fires.
The SAO was represented in the working group by Phridon Shengelia, Head of the Audit Department of Defense, Public Order and Security and Giorgi Khitarishvili, the Deputy Head of the Department.
