Senior Auditor Nazi Chaganava completed GAO International Auditor Fellowship Program 2023 in the Washington Office 19 September, 2023

Nazi Chaganava, a senior auditor of the Social Sector Audit Department, completed International Auditor Fellowship Program (IAFP) at the US Government Accountability Office (GAO), in Washington, DC.

Nazi Chaganava was in Washington office for three months and got acquainted with the principles and practices of the main US GAO. The Program was attended by 10 Representatives of SAIs from eight countries and all of them prepared a strategic document. Nazi Chaganava worked on the strategic document – „Starting and Maintaining High Performing Teams“.

At the end of the study visit, the program participants made a presentation on their strategic documents, which was attended by US GAO employees and trainers. The Comptroller General of the GAO Mr Gene L. Dodaro, also met the participants of the program.

Upon completion of the program, the participants were awarded special certificates by Orice Williams Brown, Chief Operating Officer of the US Government Accountability Office.

Nazi Chaganava shared her experience gained within the framework of the professional training program organized by the GAO with colleagues at the State Audit Office.

The State Audit Office has been cooperating with the GAO since 1998 within the scope of the International Auditor Fellowship Program. During these years, the program was attended by 9 persons, who worked at managerial positions in the SAO at different times. The aim of the program is to strengthen the institutional capacity of the SAIs by increasing qualification of the participants.

SAOG shares and implements the best practices of the US Government Accountability Office to which employees returning to work after internships offers a variety of initiatives.

The International Auditor Fellowship Program is implemented with the support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Preparations for the IAFP 2024 are already underway, and the auditors of the State Audit Office are going through the appropriate procedures for inclusion in the program.
