At the State Audit Office, the Auditor General Tsotne Kavlashvili hosted an inception meeting with the representatives of the newly launched US Development Agency "National Governance Program".
The parties discussed the goals and directions of the USAID new program at the meeting. On his part, the Auditor General Tsotne Kavlashvili introduced them the needs of the State Audit Office for the scope of the program.
The five-years engagement with the State Audit Office through the "National Governance Program" includes institutional strengthening of audit directions, including information technology (IT) audits, sharing international experiences in auditing, development of electronic systems, professional development of the auditors, implementation of joint projects with the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), fellowship programs, strengthening the Public Audit Institute, extending cooperation with strategic partners and various other activities.
The Auditor General spoke about the progress of the development of the institutional capacity of the State Audit Office having achieved with the support of its strategic partner USAID.
The State Audit Office has implemented number of projects within the scope of the MoU with USAID (2019-2022) and the "Good Governance Initiative" program (2014-2020) in both professional development and institutional strengthening.
The meeting was attended by Richard Haselwood, Chief of Party, Lina Panteleeva, Governance Specialist at USAID, Irina Arabidze, Oversight Institutions Lead, and Ana Gvenetadze, Governing Institutions Lead. Tsotne Karkashadze, the Head of the State Budget and Strategic Analysis Department, and Nino Kereselidze, Head of Donor Relations Division participated in the working meeting on behalf of the SAO.
