The State Audit Office commenced a new project together with the European Union 10 November, 2022

With the involvement of the State Audit Office, the first phase of the implementation of the EU Project "Support to external security sector oversight in Georgia" within the „EU4 Security, Accountability and Fight against Crime in Georgia (SAFE)“ Programme has been launched.

Within the scope of the project, representatives of the department of national defence, public order and internal security of the Supreme Audit Institution of Poland (NIK) in Tbilisi introduced the best practices of conducting audits in security sector to the State Audit Office staff at a two-day meeting and shared their experiences.

"Security is a priority and sensitive sector for all countries. The experience of our European colleagues and sharing of their practices is valuable for further strengthening of the State Audit Office. We are focused on constantly increasing our capabilities, and cooperation with our European colleagues is particularly important in this process,'' said the General Auditor Tsotne Kavlashvili at the opening of the project.

The team leader of the Project, Johan Hommes, noted that it is important to share the European experience and further improve the institutional capacity of the audit office in the part of the supervision of the security sector.

The main aim  of the project "Support to external security sector oversight in Georgia" funded by the European Union is to strengthen the capacities of security supervisory institutions, Parliament, State Audit Office, Public Defender, Special Investigation Service and other actors in security sector supervision.

The project has been running since October 2021 and will continue until October 2024. The project is implemented by B&S Europe together with the consortium of PMCG and GCSD. Among the activities to be implemented by the project for the State Audit Office are sharing experience among the supreme audit institutions of the European countries for the auditors of the Department of Defense, Public Order and Security, support in the direction of information technology (IT) audits, and development and updating the existing software in the service.
