The programme having started in 2021 falls under the EU-wide strategic framework to support Security Sector Reform (SSR) which aims to support development of accountable security institutions by strengthening oversight from the side of the Public Defender’s Office, Special Investigation Service, Personal Data Protection Service, the Parliament and the State Audit Office over the law enforcement bodies in line with the European best practices. The programme includes strengthening capacity of the SAO with regards to its oversight functions through improvement of internal structures and procedures.
Conducted actitivies:
- International expertise regarding specific approaches to the audit of defence and security has been provided from the Polish National Audit Office (NIK) experts at working meetings hosted online and in person in November 2022 in Tbilisi.
Planned activities:
- Providing international expertise regarding sector specific issues and approaches on audits to law enforcement agencies (LEAs).
- Assisting the SAO with a software upgrade.
- Supporting the SAO in upgrading the audit recommendation implementation system.
