An international parallel audit report was published with the participation of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of Georgia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
Performance Audit on Tuberculosis Prevention and Treatment were conducted simultaneously in three countries, on the basis of which a joint report was prepared. The international parallel audit was coordinated by the State Audit Office of Georgia (SAO).
The international audit revealed such common findings as:
- Strategic shortcomings - unrealistic goals and indicators; non-existence of action plans and insufficient coordination of public agencies;
- Lack of medical staff and epidemiologists - deficiencies in their distribution and productivity, which prevents early detection of the disease, adequate coverage of risk groups;
- Delayed implementation of epidemiological studies, which affects the spread of the disease;
- Problems of qualification of medical staff, primary health care segment;
- Discontinued treatment problem and high rates of disease resistant form;
- Lack of public awareness and the problem of disease stigmatization;
- Infrastructure problems.
Into this, recommendations aimed at improvement were issued in response to the audit findings.
