The working group of the Parliament reviewed Performance Audit report of the State Audit Office on the environmental management in the field of mineral mining.
The report assesses whether the measures taken by the responsible agencies provide adequate protection of the environment held by the mineral mining companies.
Within the scope of the audit, deficiencies were identified in respect of full-fledged assessment of licensing areas, definition of conditions, regulation, control and rehabilitation measures for damaged environment for the eradication of which the State Audit Office issued recommendations.
The session was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, National Agency of Mines, Land and Mineral Division of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture who fully agreed with the recommendations of the State Audit Office.
In the framework of the meeting the agencies responsible for the recommendations were clarified and the steps for future cooperation were discussed. All the above-mentioned primarily focuses on the development of the action plan for recommendations implementation by the auditees.
At the meeting, the State Audit Office was represented by the Deputy Auditor General Davit Gogichaishvili, the Deputy Head of Performance Audit Department Giorgi Kapanadze and the Senior Auditor Bidzina Makashvili.
